NAMI Florida Advocacy Goals

NAMI's mission to promote recovery, reduce stigma, and improve health care and treatment for those living with a mental illness and their families requires a strong advocacy effort.  We work with state and federal agencies and our elected officials on a regular basis to assure that laws and regulations do no harm and indeed work to the improve lives of people with mental illnesses and their families.

One continuing goal of NAMI Florida's advocacy is to ensure adequate funding for a system of comprehensive public mental health services for Floridians.  Our hope is that through improved funding and use of evidence-based treatment services, Florida's "D" rate in NAMI’s 2009 Grading the States report can be lifted to a passing grade. Accordingly, NAMI Florida has adopted Making the Grade as a major advocacy theme.

An overview of specific policy priorities related to Making the Grade and a supportive factsheet can be downloaded here.
